‘Wonder Man’ Will Be Released Under the New “Marvel Spotlight” Banner

Among a torrent of news from Marvel Studios, including the exit of Destin Daniel Cretton from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, we have been given more insight into the upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man.

While Cretton will not be working on the next Avengers film, his relationship with Marvel has not ended. Cretton is still serving as the co-creator, executive producer, and director of Wonder Man.

The series will star Yahua Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood stuntman who gains superpowers.

Joining Abdul-Mateen II will be Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Trevor Slattery from Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Ed Harris who will appear as Neal Saroyan, Simon’s agent.

Production Will Resume After Thanksgiving

Filming on Wonder Man began in April 2023 before production was shut down in May due to the WGA strike. During the Hollywood strikes, rumors circulated that although the series was partially filmed, Marvel may not move forward with Wonder Man.

In their recent exclusive about Cretton leaving The Kang Dynasty, however, Deadline has reported that production on Wonder Man will resume after Thanksgiving.

‘Wonder Man’ Will Be Released Under Marvel Spotlight

Additionally, Wonder Man is now expected to debut under the Marvel Spotlight banner.

For those who don’t know, Marvel Studios will debut its new Marvel Spotlight banner with Echo in January of next year.

The new subset of Marvel Studios content will feature shows that fans can enjoy more easily without having kept up with the rest of the MCU.

“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen. And in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity,” said Marvel Studios Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum. “Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening.”

When Will ‘Wonder Man’ Arrive on Disney+

While we do not have a timeline for when Wonder Man will be released, it likely won’t be until late 2024 or even 2025.

Still, as rumors had swirled that Marvel was not moving forward with Wonder Man, it’s great to hear that the series is still in development.
