While the failure of The Marvels at the box office eventually became the definitive moment for Marvel Studios in 2023, the year got off to an auspicious start with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The third installment of the Ant-Man franchise not only saw the return of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang but also properly introduced Jonathan Majors’s Kang the Conqueror to the MCU.

Despite being the launching point for Marvel’s Phase V, Quantumania was a true box-office disappointment for Marvel, eventually grossing $476.1 million, short of its break-even point of $600 million.
Marvel’s Shifting Strategy
Following the film’s disappointing release, Disney CEO Bob Iger wondered if Marvel was showcasing the right characters.
“Do you need a third and a fourth for instance? Or is it time to turn to other characters?” Iger said.

Paul Rudd Talks Ant-Man’s Future
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Rudd was asked what was next for Scott Lang. His answer was short.

“I have no idea. I don’t know. Yeah, that’s not for me to answer, you’d have to go to Kevin Feige and those guys,” Rudd said.
While it doesn’t sound like Rudd is chomping at the bit to suit up in the MCU again, he is also not rejecting a return altogether.
Although Ant-Man 4 seems unlikely at this point, Rudd’s inclusion in Avengers 5 and perhaps Avengers: Secret Wars would seem like a natural fit.
For now, however, Marvel fans will just have to wait.
