She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany grabbed headlines during last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike when she slammed Disney CEO Bob Iger for being “completely out of touch.”
“It’s very disturbing to me,” Iger had said when asked about the labor strikes. “We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from COVID which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption.”
At the time, Maslany had just started in the big-budget Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and her character, Jennifer Walters, seemed primed to join the next generation of Avengers.
“I think he’s completely out of touch. He’s completely out of touch with the workers who make his shows happen, who make people watch these shows, who bring viewers to him and him money.”
Maslany Reflects on Her Iger Comments
Ironically, She-Hulk was not one of the series that brought Disney money, as the show’s massive budget failed to turn into strong ratings by Marvel standards. Following the disappointing reception to She-Hulk and Secret Invasion, Marvel publicly announced that it was overhauling how it made television series.
Looking back now, Maslany wishes that she had phrased her attack on Iger better.
“In those moments, you’re so heated up,” Maslany now told The Independent. “It’s hard to articulate yourself in a way that you want when you’re on the picket line with everybody.”
Will We See ‘She-Hulk’ Season 2?
While She-Hulk season 2 seems unlikely to happen at this point, it is not because of Maslany’s comments. Instead, the actress revealed that Disney is likely shying away from the show due to its extravagant budget.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is streaming on Disney+.
