ESPN and the National Hockey League (NHL) are getting ready to return to Big City for the second “NHL Big City Greens Classic.”
On March 9, the second Big City Greens Classic featuring the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers will once again meld together the worlds of animation and live sports with its first-of-its-kind live volumetric animation presentation.

The alternate presentation of the Penguins-Bruins game will feature real-time recreated animation of NHL players and teams modeled after characters from the Disney Channel’s hit animated series Big City Greens.
Different Ways to Watch
The animated version of the broadcast will air on ESPN+, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and DIsney+. The traditional telecast will be available on ABC and ESPN+.

For the Big City Greens broadcast, Gramma will coach the Bruins, while her grandson, Cricket, will coach the Penguins.
The game will be called by Drew Carter, Kevin Weekes, and Arda Ocal, who will wear virtual reality headsets for motion capture, which will immerse them in the animated environment.

Big City Greens voice actors will also be featured in the telecast, including creator and executive producer Chris Houghton (Cricket), Marieve Herington (Tilly), Zeno Robinson (Remy), Artemis Pebdani (Gramma), and creator and executive producer Shane Houghton (various characters).
Characters Take Center Stage
Last but not least, during intermission, the Big City Greens characters will square off in a series of skill competitions.
With last year’s Big City Greens Classic a major success for ESPN and the NHL, it is great to see that the groundbreaking broadcast is returning!
