Tom Hiddleston Explains His Inspiration For ‘Loki’s Final Scenes

If Tom Hiddleston’s Marvel Cinematic Universe journey is over, the actor went out on the highest of notes.

Season 2 of Loki ended with the God of Mischief assuming responsibility for holding the multiverse together, grabbing the disparate timelines, and connecting them to himself.

During his recent appearance at MegaCon, Hiddleston explained how Loki’s ending came together, and what emotions were running through his head during filming.

“At the very end of episode 6, of season 2, Justin and Aaron turned to me… We were doing Loki walking up the steps, with timelines in his hands and moving toward sitting in the chair and what that would mean. … Justin and Aaron turned to me and said, ‘I think we’re gonna be in here’ – which is the size of the shot – ‘We’re gonna be really close on your face in about 30 minutes. How can we help you with where you need to be there then,’” Hiddleston explained.

“And I said, ‘It just makes me think of the 15 years I’ve played this character,’ and Aaron said, ‘Why don’t you go away’ – because the energy of the set is very practical – ‘So just go and take a minute, and why don’t you watch some of the scenes from the last 15 years,’ which was a brilliant note.”

Reflecting on His Time in the MCU

According to Hiddleston, at that moment, he was reflecting back on the friends he had made in the MCU and the growth he had experienced as an individual.

“It was so clever, because it made me think of – for me, personally, me, Tom – it made me reflect on the friendships that I had made in this journey, the people I’d met, the laughter we shared, the lessons that I learned personally. By the time I came back in to shoot the scene, I was carrying all of those memories with me, and it felt very fresh and very resonant. It all came from Justin and Aaron’s suggestion to do that.”

In the end, Hiddleston found common ground in Loki’s motivation for assuming his lonely post and his own journey with Marvel.

“So that last shot, it’s me thinking of all the people that I’ve shared this journey with, which is who he’s talking about in the end, when he says, ‘For you, for all of us.’”

Will Hiddleston Return?

In an ever-expanding multiverse, the opportunity for Hiddleston is certainly there. By the sound of things, however, the actor is ready to move onto a new chapter of his life.

If Hiddleston is indeed finished playing Loki, the character’s final scenes become all the more emotional.
