With the introduction of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Vincent D’Onorfio’s Kingpin in Hawkeye, the canonicity of the Marvel Netflix series has once again entered the spotlight.
For those who don’t remember, beginning with Daredevil in 2015, Marvel Television and ABC Studios created a series of interconnected Marvel series that streamed on Netflix.
The series, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cake, Iron Fist, Punisher, and the crossover miniseries The Defenders, featured a darker, grittier tone and focused on “street level” heroes.
While the Marvel Netflix series was ostensibly set in the MCU, the canonicity of the shows has been debated for almost a decade.
Brad Winderbaum Sets the Record Straight
While Marvel has largely remained coy about whether or not the Netflix Marvel series should be considered MCU canon, Marvel producer Brand WInderbaum may have finally answered the question once and for all.

“I can say that up until this point, we’ve been a little bit cagey about what’s Sacred Timeline, what’s not Sacred Timeline. That was born of, frankly, a period at the studio where we were like, ‘We have to stick the landing with the vendors,’” Winderbaum explained to ScreenRant. “It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff. We were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but there was a lot to balance anyway.”
Are The Netflix Series Canon?
Marvel has previously admitted that Marvel Studios and Marvel Television were largely separate entities creating their own stories. So, does Winderbaum believe the Netflix series are canon?

“But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline.”

There you have it. According to Winderbaum, the Netflix Marvel series are canon. Hopefully, the connection between the series and the current MCU will be solidified and made clear in both Daredevil: Born Again and Echo.
